Welcome

Thanks to the efforts of Father Michael J. McGivney, assistant pastor of St. Mary’s Church in New Haven and some of his parishioners, the Connecticut state legislature on March 29, 1882, officially chartered the Knights of Columbus as a fraternal benefit society. The Order is still true to its founding principles of charity, unity and fraternity. The Knights was formed to render financial aid to members and their families. Mutual aid and assistance are offered to sick, disabled and needy members and their families. Social and intellectual fellowship is promoted among members and their families through educational, charitable, religious, social welfare, war relief and public relief works.

The Knights of Columbus has grown from several members in one council to more than 14,700 councils and 1.7 million members throughout the United States, Canada, the Philippines, Mexico, Poland, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Panama, the Bahamas, the Virgin Islands, Guatemala, Guam and Saipan. .

In March of 2008 Pope Benedict declared Father McGivney "venerable." The Pope’s declaration significantly advances the priest’s process toward sainthood.

This was really a team effort. Thanks to Judy Salz, Peggy Hinman and Maria Rojas for taking care of check in and hustling $640 worth of Mulligans. Who could turn them down? Huge thanks to Jeff and Marci Daly for completely redoing all our sponsor signs so we can change the names easily in the future. This took hours to accomplish and we would have had many mickey mouse and incorrect signs without their efforts. We now have a sign sponsor chairman!! Thanks to Gordon, Frank, Mark and Vinny for manning the drink carts and to Tim for purchasing all the drinks at a discount saving us $$ of the price at the Club. Special thanks to Gordon who paid for extra beers from Malibu CC out of his own pocket and made it a donation. We had way more beer drinkers than we anticipated but it probably kept the golf swings loose and the spirits high. Thanks to all the Knights who sponsored holes and played in the tournament. We now know that Bill Conkle is a closet golfer at heart! And thanks to Richard for keeping track of the finances and to Paul for manning the website and the PayPal funds. Dan Muzzey gave me a blank check from Players Club to fill out so our profits this year will be at a record level! Dan has offered to host a post tournament outing at Players Club on Pico . See you all soon.

Jim Salz, Golf Tournament Chairman
